Mexico City is renowned for its vibrant nightlife, with numerous excellent bars to explore. Here, we’ll introduce you to some of the best rooftop bars in the city.
These rooftop bars offer stunning skyline views, making them perfect for enjoying a drink, whether during the day, before dinner, or as part of an exciting night out.
Most of the top rooftops are in the Centro Histórico, Mexico City’s Historical Centre, home to many of the city’s famous landmarks and iconic views.
After spending a month in Mexico City, I had the chance to work during the day and enjoy its fantastic restaurants and scenic bars in the evenings. While many great spots have popped up in trendy areas recently, we’ve featured some of the best here.
First up is Nivel 40 SkyBar, located on the 40th floor of Torre Latinoamericana, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. This bar offers arguably the best views in all of Mexico City. The skyscraper, built between 1949-56 and standing at 182 meters, allows free entrance if you’re visiting the bar, giving you both the experience of the tower and a chance to sip on great cocktails.
Nivel 40 operates from 1pm to 10pm, Monday to Thursday, and extends to 11pm from Friday to Sunday. The lighting sets a perfect ambiance, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering unobstructed views of the Zócalo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Palacio de Bellas Artes. You can see the entire city from this vantage point, with a stunning 360-degree view, especially at sunset. The drinks are a bit pricey, ranging from 160-200 pesos, but the experience is worth it. There’s also a small food menu and a luxurious restaurant, Miralto, on the floor above.
Aleli in Roma Norte is another great rooftop bar. Located on Sinaloa Street, near Sevilla metro station, it’s built on the roof of a charming house. The staff serves creative cocktails and fantastic draft beer, with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. I recommend trying the beer flight if you can’t decide. Their wine list offers good choices at reasonable prices. The restaurant on the roof serves delicious food with a Mexican twist, including a must-try roasted cheesecake. They are open from Tuesday to Sunday.
La Azotea, located next to Alameda Central in the Centro Histórico, offers fantastic views of the park and the surrounding landmarks. Connected to Chaya B&B, the bar is open to the public. It features a selection of craft beers and sophisticated cocktails made with traditional Mexican ingredients. The bar is ideal for daytime visits or pre-dinner drinks, and their cocktails are reasonably priced.
For a rooftop bar in Zócalo, visit La Terraza on Avenida 16 de Septiembre. Part of the Gran Hotel Ciudad de México, it provides stunning city views and a perfect spot for a cocktail. Dinner, brunch, and other delightful experiences can be had here, and the luxurious ambiance adds to the charm.
La Casa de las Sirenas offers a historical terrace dating back to 1754. Located on Calle República de Guatemala, it provides views of the Zócalo, Metropolitan Cathedral, and Templo Mayor. Known for one of the largest selections of tequilas, the bar also has a restaurant serving local specialties.
Terraza Cha Cha Chá near the Monumento a la Revolución is popular and vibrant, especially on weekends. It features craft beers, tequilas, mezcals, and excellent food. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is upbeat.
Downtown Hotel Terrace Bar on Calle Isabel La Católica combines a rooftop bar with a pool and jacuzzi, offering a large terrace with great views of the city’s famous landmarks. The vibe can get lively with DJs on certain nights, and reservations are recommended for Thursday to Saturday evenings.
Hotel Condesa DF has the best rooftop bar in Condesa, a neighborhood I spent a month exploring. Located on Avenida Veracruz, it’s a wonderful place to relax with great views over the park and Chapultepec Castle. They have an on-site sushi bar by Chef Keisuke Harada and a range of Japanese-Mexican fusion dishes.
Area Bar in Polanco is a quiet, refined spot attached to Hotel Habita. The sleek, modern decor creates a romantic ambiance with spectacular views. They offer excellent tapas and sharing plates at surprisingly affordable prices.
Balmori in Roma offers a chic and trendy atmosphere with inventive cocktails and a variety of drinks. Located on Zacatecas Street, it has a beautifully designed space with a retractable roof, making it an all-weather destination.
These rooftop bars are perfect for relaxing and enjoying Mexico City’s views. Most bars have a relaxed dress code, and while reservations are often not needed, expect some wait times during peak hours. Enjoy exploring these amazing rooftop bars in Mexico City!
